There has been a public house here since Georgian times. It used to be called the Miners Arms and was used for much-needed refreshment by the lead miners working in Lathkil Dale. Indeed, in the 1850s it was owned by James Bateman, the local mining agent. The present bar is traditional in style, with settles and wooden tables. Traditional games like darts and dominoes are played here, as well as quizzes and modern delights such as Formula One motor racing sweepstakes. There is a constant procession of wonderful guest beers from brewers like Whim Ales (brewed locally in Hartington village), Somerset's Cottage Brewery and such famous names as Adnam's of Suffolk.
