Fly fishing on the River Wye and River Derwent
We offer our guests seven miles of some of the best dry fly trout fishing in the UK, and the Haddon Estate's Head Riverkeeper is always available for helpful advice.
Seven miles of wild trout fishing is available where no artificial stocking takes place.
The River Wye is unique in being the only river in the country with wild rainbow trout in addition to our rare strain of brown trout. We also have two rods on the Derwent, for residents only, part of which runs through the Peacock garden.
We sell fishing equipment at Reception including selected flies and tippet material.

Grayling Season for Peacock Fly Fishing Club Members only (8th October - 7th January)
After a successful trout season, Club Members are now allowed to fish for grayling on any day of the week. The dry fly rule has been relaxed when fishing for grayling, as this will reduce the amount of trout caught. Up to a team of three flies may be used, but i'd recommend using heavily weighted nymphs fished upstream, ensuring that your fishing on the river bed. Please do not allow your nymphs to swing midstream thus catching trout. Please avoid blind casting in the town centre as more success will come when casting at grayling that you've spotted.
We will allow members to bring the occasional guest and that the Peacock are notified when you are booking your day. But please be aware that you are responsible for your guest, ensuring that the rules are clear: No wading, up to a team of three flies, barbless hooks, catch and release and that fish are handled in the correct manner. During spells of high water in the river, please take extra care and always be aware of where the river margin is.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to give me a call on 07718636128. Hope to see you on the bank!!
